[ CHARACTER INFORMATION ]
Name: Hiro Kageyama (Note: in the game, the protagonist has no canon name. This name is taken from one of the manga adaptations.)
Age: Actual and apparent age: 18
Gender: Male
Canon: Devil Survivor 2
Timeline: Post-canon, after the Triumphant ending (see background for what that means).
Background:
The Megami Tensei wiki's page on Hiro.
The Megami Tensei wiki's page on Devil Survivor 2 itself. Contains most of the plot information.
Wikipedia's page on the game.
Hiro comes from after the Triumphant ending, which means that he reset the world back to its state before the disaster and recruited all his friends in the process. He has been living peacefully with his friends since then. However, despite the reset, it seems that he has kept the memories of what happened over the 8 days. Also, he managed to save everyone who was shown in a death clip.
Personality:
(Note: In-game, Hiro is a mostly silent protagonist. Due to this, his personality is gleaned from possible dialogue choices, with a little fan interpretation/expansion thrown in.)
One thing that a person might gather from their first impression of Hiro is his outstanding friendliness towards people, even towards people he barely knows or just met. He is a person who truly "fights for his friends," acting as their leader and defending them at all costs. When he was faced with a "death clip" from the website Nicaea, he would jump into action to save his friends. Such actions are indicative of how much he cares for his friends and the people he meets. They also show how much he cares about people in general, given how he risks his life to protect civilians whenever they have run-ins with demons.
-You can always talk to me.
[Said to Daichi]
Hiro is always willing to lend an ear to hear out people's troubles and console them the best he can. Otome mentions on multiple occasions that she feels better after talking to him, and many others experience this effect as well. At one point in the game, his aptitude for consoling others actually saves Io's life by ensuring that she has a strong enough will to survive channeling a demon. His knack for listening to and comforting his friends has caused him to be labeled a confidant and is the source of his connections with others.
On the topic of people's troubles, Hiro has a remarkable ability to tell when someone is hiding their true feelings. When Airi says that a story Makoto told about her past was "dull," Hiro asks her if that's really how she feels. He does the same to Joe on routes where you have to recruit him (that is, any route but Ronaldo's) when Joe puts up his usual facade of blithe cheerfulness regarding his defeat. He has a keen perceptive ability when it comes to people and is able to read their emotions with ease.
"I've needed them [the demons] to
survive, but... I think we should give them more thought..."
-You think so?
-Sure. I'll help.
Whenever there's a quandary of some sort that needs an extra head to help figure it out, Hiro is generally willing to lend his mind to offer suggestions on how the problem could be solved or how the concept works. Sometimes his help doesn't go beyond confirming or denying what other people come up with, but he tries to help speculate.
[Regarding the Anguished One]
-He's the website administrator.
-He's Nicaeaman.
Hiro has something of a mischievous, jokestery side to him as well. It has been remarked that he has a good sense of humor. (In Daichi's path, Ronaldo remarks that he'd like to learn Hiro's sense of humor.) One option in one of Daichi's Fate scenes involves pantsing him, so sometimes he can go a little too far.
"If I don't stand up and fight,
there won't be any justice!"
-How stupid are you?
-Come on, let's fight!
-You're the evil one here.
In the heat of conflict, Hiro can be remarkably hotblooded, sometimes saying that it's "time to start kicking ass" if not giving the signal to start fighting with a simple "Let's do this!" He is considered the leader of the group by quite a few of his friends (Daichi even says to Joe, "What are you doing? It's not like you're Hiro," when Joe tries to lead the group around), both in terms of combat and in terms of keeping the group together.
In terms of strengths, Hiro is actually quite good with strategy and rather smart. He can understand Fumi's (JP's resident scientist) ramblings with a bit of processing, and that's not an easy thing to do by any means. His emotional warmth is definitely his strongest emotional strength, followed by his determination and tenacity. Even when seeing the destruction the Septentriones have unleashed and the chaos the people have gone into, Hiro remains stable and calm because he knows people are relying on him to lead them and help pull them together. He is also quite honest to himself and others- emotionally honest, if you will.
However, this is not to say that he has no weaknesses. Mentally, he's not exactly a genius, and some more arcane concepts may elude him for a while (he's probably going to be out of the loop on just how resonance and Weapons work exactly for a bit). Sometimes his comedic jabs come at inappropriate times as a result of an impulse or the rare misjudged situation. He can get so wrapped up in "fun mode" that it may not hit him for a bit that "fun time" is over unless the sirens are seriously going off. On the rare occasions when he's provoked, he can also be quite blunt, like when he simply tells poor puzzled Daichi to be quiet and listen during important strategy meetings.
In short, Hiro is a warm, friendly person with a penchant for fun and joking around. He is quite charismatic, which allows him to keep his group pulled together and is the backbone of his leadership. His emotional honesty towards himself and others is outstanding. Once you have Hiro as a friend, expect him to be loyal to you to the last.
Why is your character a good fit for the setting of Soul Campaign, and what will they do once they are in the game?
Hiro is definitely in the "hero invested in saving innocents" category. While he might be a little reluctant to fight again initially due to having just saved his world and having been through eight harrowing days, he'll warm up to the idea of fighting for another world's safety eventually. Also of note is that his game has a mechanic that involves increasing relationships with people and strengthening them through that process (this is called the Fate system). Given that strengthening people by strengthening bonds is a familiar concept to Hiro, he will probably respond well to the process of finding a Weapon partner and resonating with them.
List the abilities your character will still have in Soul Campaign:
Since Hiro's cell phone will probably be taken away due to it being a weapon (it allows him to summon demons and use offensive/support skills), he probably won't have any of his in-game abilities. That aside, he probably wouldn't even have the ability to summon or use skills in the first place, since the disasters never happened in the restored timeline and therefore the Demon Summoning App was never put on his phone (he has still signed up for Nicaea, but whether it actually does anything in the new timeline is unknown).
List the weaknesses your character will gain (or lose) in Soul Campaign:
As was previously said, he no longer has the ability to summon demons or use skills due to the lack of cell phone. He'll just be a normal human aside from his new Meister abilities.

Soul Description:
Six Adjectives: Friendly, charismatic, humorous, hotblooded, sympathetic, resilient, strong-willed
Hiro's soul is light blue and appears to be wearing a hood with "bunny ears" much like the one Hiro's jacket has (I'm afraid all I have is an icon for reference: here). It is smiling and generally appears happy.
Ability:
The ability chosen was Soul BFF.

First-Person
Hey, everyone. This is Hiro. [His expression is dead serious. It seems to be a very well-practiced look of determination.]
I've come to a decision. At first, I was unsure if I wanted to fight for this place. I had just come out of eight days of fighting for my own world, and I was tired. I didn't think I could handle the strain of another set of full-on battles... but that's changed. If I can help people by fighting, I'll do it. I've seen for myself the impact that one person can have on a situation, and so I'm going to join the fight.
[Suddenly, the serious look totally drops.] There's one lit-tle problem, though... I don't know how to use any weapons! [Despite himself, he laughs. It seems he just couldn't stay that serious for too long.]
So, uh... can someone teach me how to use a weapon? Any weapon will do. Can any Weapon people teach me how to use them or something? I need to start somewhere... so I guess I should just see who I meet and then go from there, huh? In that case, I look forward to meeting all of you and finding someone I resonate with.
See you all around!
Third-Person
Another day had gone by in the peaceful restored world. No giant aliens had threatened Japan, no one's life was at risk, the only truly stressful thing that had happened was the assignment of a paper (that Daichi proceeded to freak out about to Hiro till the cows came home during lunch). Everything was status quo, peachy-keen, fine and dandy. It almost made Hiro miss the days when he was on the battlefield with his friends, beating down demons. He tried to shake that thought out of his head, though. The last thing he wanted was to see the world embroiled in danger once again. The world itself was its own reward for what he had been through, as he saw it. Might as well enjoy it.
Hiro was not in for a good night's sleep, however. His next conscious sensation was that of being on a cold floor in a thoroughly dark room. Reflexively, he reached into his pocket for his cellphone- ah, what a joke. He couldn't summon demons anymore anyway, so if something approached him here, he was pretty screwed. His cell phone wasn't even in his pocket, so the point was more or less moot.
Suddenly, the screens lit up to reveal Spirit Albarn. Initially, Hiro was startled, but he regained his composure quickly. When the man told him to stay calm, he did so. Well, he was used to following orders that required him to have a level head, even if he was typically the one making sure that everyone else was calm. The explanation that followed nearly set Hiro off again. Somehow, he had been transported to Nevada (wasn't that in America?), and into a city at war to boot. The whole time, he was willing himself to wake up, to snap out of this bizarre dream and to wake up at home, where everything made sense and was safe. Unfortunately, the awakening never came, and the strange explanation continued. Seeing that he wasn't getting out of this any time soon, Hiro got serious and tuned back into the explanation around the part where Meisters and Weapons were being discussed. People who changed into weapons, huh? Well, he had seen stranger things, definitely (or at least, he thought he had).
So now he was being given his ultimatum: remain a citizen, or join forces with Shibusen and fight witches. The decision was very reminiscent of when Yamato had given him a similar choice, and that memory effectively made his decision for him. If he couldn't go home, hiding would do nothing for the world's state of affairs. He had no choice but to take action and make a difference himself. And, like in his last calamity, he wasn't alone. If what Spirit said was correct, there would be others for him to battle alongside. He would have to do his best to support these people. given that he wasn't really at the top of an unspoken hierarchy anymore. Those who came before him would be the ones giving orders, but that was alright. If Hiro could help them, he would.
Whether he wanted it or not, it looked like Hiro was going on another adventure.
