Hiro was just an ordinary high school student with a normal family life. However, a massive earthquake changed all that... demons emerged into the world, and he was soon caught up in a dire struggle against the demons with his friends Daichi Shijima and Io Nitta.
The trio would soon fall in with an organization known as JP's (pronounced "Jips"), a secret government organization responsible for managing paranormal threats to Japan for generations. He stayed with JP's for several days, having to fight off new challenges each day. These challenges typically culminated in fights with bizarre creatures called the Septentriones, powerful entities unlike any demons he would ever fight with his group. There was Dubhe, the one that exploded; Merak, the one that shot lasers that froze anyone to pure ice on contact; Phecda, capable of splitting in two; Megrez, the one that shot out buds but whose true bodies were hidden under the surface of the ocean; and lastly, Mizar, the one capable of splitting and replicating endlessly.
Hiro's group was also confronted with "death clips" from the mysterious website Nicaea, which would depict the deaths of his friends before they were bound to happen. Using the information provided by the death clips, he was able to save each and every one of his friends and avert their foretold deaths.
Over the course of the adventure, it was revealed that the true enemy was Polaris, a godlike entity that planned to erase the world due to its dissatisfaction with humans. Polaris could do more than erase the world, however; it could edit it like a computer file. Humans could possibly approach it and convince it to edit the world to a certain new order. These revelations set the stage for a divisive conflict among Hiro's friends: what would the fate of the new world be? What new order would be best for the world?
The night of Mizar's defeat, Hiro was left with a difficult choice. His group of friends had divided into several factions, each with their own idea of how the new world should be run. There was Yamato Hotsuin's faction, who believed in a merit system that valued the strong and punished the weak. Another faction, led by Ronaldo Kuriki, believed in total and absolute equality for everyone, the opposite of Yamato's merit system. Daichi was leading a faction that simply wanted everyone to cooperate for the sake of a better world, with no infighting amongst former friends (though Daichi lacked a true vision for how the new world would run). There was also a fourth option in a certain Anguished One: destroy Polaris and put a new god that loved humans on the Heavenly Throne.
Hiro was leaning towards Daichi's path himself; he wanted all of his friends safe and together in whatever world Daichi came up with. However, it seems that fate didn't want him to make any decision at all...
Personality: (Note: In-game, Hiro is a mostly silent protagonist. Due to this, his personality is gleaned from possible dialogue choices, with a little fan interpretation/expansion thrown in.)
One thing that a person might gather from their first impression of Hiro is his outstanding friendliness towards people, even towards people he barely knows or just met. He is a person who truly "fights for his friends," acting as their leader and defending them at all costs. When he was faced with a "death clip" from the website Nicaea, he would jump into action to save them. Such actions are indicative of how much he cares for his friends and the people he meets.
-You can always talk to me.
[Said to Daichi]
Hiro is always willing to lend an ear to hear out people's troubles and console them the best he can. Otome mentions on multiple occasions that she feels better after talking to him, and many others experience this effect as well. His knack for listening to and comforting his friends has caused him to be labeled a confidant.
"I've needed them [the demons] to
survive, but... I think we should give them more thought..."
-You think so?
-Sure. I'll help.
Whenever there's a quandary of some sort that needs an extra head to help figure it out, Hiro is generally willing to lend his mind to offer suggestions on how the problem could be solved or how the concept works.
[Regarding the Anguished One]
-He's the website administrator.
-He's Nicaeaman.
Hiro has something of a mischievous, jokestery side to him as well. It has been remarked that he has a good sense of humor. (In Daichi's path, Ronaldo remarks that he'd like to learn Hiro's sense of humor.)
"If I don't stand up and fight,
there won't be any justice!"
-How stupid are you?
-Come on, let's fight!
-You're the evil one here.
In the heat of conflict, Hiro can be remarkably hotblooded, sometimes saying that it's "time to start kicking ass" if not giving the signal to start fighting with a simple "Let's do this!" He is considered the leader of the group by quite a few of his friends (Daichi even says to Joe, "What are you doing? It's not like you're Hiro," when Joe tries to lead the group around), both in terms of combat and in terms of keeping the group together.
In short, Hiro is a warm, friendly person with a penchant for fun and joking around. He is quite charismatic, which allows him to keep his group pulled together and is the backbone of his leadership. His emotional honesty towards himself and others is outstanding. Once you have Hiro as a friend, expect him to be loyal to you to the last.
Strengths: [Note: The main character's stat distribution is up to the player. In this case, Hiro has a more magic-oriented build.]
Physical: He's about as strong as an average 18-year-old boy could be. Could he help you carry that mini-fridge up the dorm stairs? Probably. He's also fairly agile; one needs to learn how to dodge when facing down demons that are all too willing to chomp your face off.
Mental: He's fairly good with strategy and all around pretty smart. He is the one who organizes everyone's demon teams and coordinates them in battle, after all. [Yes, it's really the player doing all that, but why not Hiro?] He can also understand Fumi's (the resident scientist at JP's) ramblings after a bit of processing, and that's not an easy thing to do by any means.
Emotional: His emotional warmth is definitely his strongest emotional strength, followed by his determination and tenacity. Even when seeing the destruction the Septentriones have unleashed and the chaos the people have gone into, Hiro remains stable and calm because he knows people are relying on him to lead them and help pull them together. He is also quite honest to himself and others- emotionally honest, if you will.
Other: He excels in using magic skills and summoning strong demons with the help of the summoning app on his phone.
Weaknesses:
Physical: He's definitely not the strongest of his party. The physical combat is best left to someone else.
Mental: He's smart, but some more scientific or technical concepts can elude him quite easily, and lots of JP's technology is a mystery to him that he can do no more than guess about. In short, he's not exactly genius level- that rank is saved for Fumi. He probably won't understand the more arcane concepts in Luceti for a while.
Emotional: Sometimes his comedic jabs come at inappropriate times as a result of an impulse or the rare misjudged situation. He can get so wrapped up in "fun mode" that it may not hit him for a bit that "fun time" is over unless the sirens are seriously going off. On the rare occasions when he's provoked, he can also be quite blunt, like when he simply tells poor puzzled Daichi to be quiet and listen during important strategy meetings.

First Person:
This is only my first time using the journal... gonna make it a voice post!
So I've been settled into this Luceti place... I've been given a guide and instructed about the town, but I'm still more confused than my friend Daichi around the word "Septentrione." I think I'm getting the hang of getting around, though. I'm thinking about maybe checking out the hot spring when I have more friends around here. Does anyone around here go to the hot springs regularly? Maybe I'll find out.
I also wonder if they have takoyaki or anything from home around here. I doubt it. What am I doing wondering about food in a situation like this? I sound like Joe! My real concern is my cell phone. Has anyone seen a blue cellphone with a screen that flips to become horizontal? If so, it's mine. Could someone give it back to me if they find it? Thanks. I need it to use my magic and summon my demons. Oh, and the charger! Can someone help me find the charger too? That'd be great. Thanks in advance, guys! ...Because someone is gonna end up listening to this eventually, right? That's how this works, isn't it? I'm still not totally sure how this works.
...And that's my first post in my journal! Bye, everybody!
Third Person:
Hiro sat up and stretched out on the cool grass. He felt a peculiar itching and soreness in his back, and he was starting to wonder if he'd fallen asleep in a weird position while thinking about which path to choose. Grumbling a little, he reached behind him to scratch the itch... only to bump into something soft that hurt a lot when oh-so-casually bumped. Cautiously, he reached over his back again to determine what the mystery object was on his back, and found another one opposite the one he bumped into. His curiosity was fully piqued now; he looked over his shoulders and nearly goggled.
A small pair of white wings with faint blue tips had sprouted from his back! How curious indeed! Hiro tenderly brushed one hand across a wing, taking great care since it seemed to be sore. The feathers were remarkably soft. Could he flap them? Yes, he could! With some concentration, he could flap them. Flappy-flap, flappy-flap-ow. Judging from the pain his back was now in, the wings were not meant to be flapped at this point in time. Hopefully they'd heal up soon.
Hiro put his hand out and was surprised to find that his clothes were neatly folded in front of him! That meant... wait. He was shirtless. How did it take him that long to notice that?! How embarrassing. Carefully, he pulled on his blue-and-white shirt and was pleased to find that someone thoughtful had cut wingholes in them. How nice! Had this mysterious someone done the same for his jacket? Yes, yes they had, so on it went. He would change into his pants once he found somewhere private. It wasn't that the pants he had been changed into were uncomfortable, course; his pants were just what he was used to.
He saw what appeared to be a small village somewhere in the distance. Well, it looked like his next destination was set. Hiro got up and began to walk towards the village of Luceti.
